INCOSE ‘99 planned four days of social tours to help the delegate's spouses to explore and enjoy not only Brighton but the stunning Sussex countryside with its picturesque villages, glorious gardens, historic houses and fairytale castles.

Monday 7 June - Discover Brighton 9:30 to 16:00
Begin your day with a panoramic guided tour of Brighton by coach. Our first stop is delightful Preston Manor, an Edwardian gentry home, with a true "Upstairs & Downstairs" atmosphere. On to lunch and a brief walk through the famous "Brighton Lanes" - a labyrinth of narrow, brick-clad streets offering a wealth of restaurants, pubs and antique shops. Your day concludes with a guided tour of the extraordinary Royal Pavilion built between 1815 and 1822 by King George IV - an oriental mirage in an English garden, the Indian style domes and minarets hide an extravaganza of Chinoiserie on the inside.

Tuesday 8 June - Around and About in West Sussex 9:30 to 16:30
Depart Brighton to Chichester for lunch in the city centre and a tour of the historic Cathedral. Next we head for Arundel and its world famous castle which forms the focus of this fascinating day excursion. Set in attractive grounds and overlooking the River Arun, the castle has been the seat of the Duke of Norfolk and the Earls of Arundel for over 700 years. It was built even earlier, in the 11th century, was badly damaged in the English Civil War and lovingly restored in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, it remains well preserved and well worth a visit.

Wednesday 9 June - Steam & Cream 12:45 to 16:30
Depart Brighton by coach to Uckfield and then, it’s off for a 90 minute romantic meander on the Bluebell Railway’s Golden Arrow Pullman, with a traditional English cream tea served on route. This 1920’s steam train has been painstakingly restored and is one of the finest vintage trains of its class in the world.

Thursday 10 June - Hampton Court Palace 9:00 to 17:30
Today, we travel a little further afield to the breath-takingly beautiful palace of Hampton Court. Originally built in 1514 for Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, who fell from royal favour. In 1528 King Henry VIII forced Cardinal Wolsey to relinquish ownership. The King continued building this vast palace which was capable of housing and feeding his entire Tudor court of over 1,000 people. You’ll have time to explore famous gardens, but "don’t get lost in the maze" and miss your lunch! Finally, no visit to Hampton Court would be complete without a boat trip on the River Thames from the nearby pier.
