ProgrammeAt our Autumn Assembly this year we will be addressing these major topical issues. Monday 11th NovemberSystems Engineering the Intelligent EnterpriseA new international working group on Intelligent Enterprises was recently established with a strong UK participation. The aim of the group is to explore and demonstrate the utility of Systems Engineering for evolving intelligent enterprises. What has this initiative achieved so far? Where do we go next? There is a growing and broadening international interest in this subject, together with signs of some serious purpose in the group. It can take a while when carrying out cutting edge thinking such as this to get a sufficiently good handle on the subject so that it can be communicated in a simple, cogent way. The purpose of this session is to introduce this important new subject to you, and to explain some of the new ways of enterprise thinking and action. The Application of Systems Engineering StandardsHow useful are Systems Engineering standards? Do standards stifle innovation? How do we strike the right balance? Are they relevant to the challenges of the prevailing business scene? Standards can too often be perceived as constraining, authoritarian and restrictive. Too many organisations have contributed to this view by building unwieldy business management systems. UK INCOSE members have a prominent role in the international standardisation of Systems Engineering and this Sessions papers will illustrate how the current generation of Systems Engineering standards bring fresh relevance and value when applied in todays business scene. Tuesday 12th NovemberSystems Engineering and Project Management Working Together in Harmony?!Do Project Managers and Systems Engineers have fundamentally different priorities that always lead them into conflict? Or do we just not speak the same language? Presentations from specialists in reconciling the two disciplines will give guidance on how the chasm can be bridged. The session will be structured in the form of a SWOT analysis. Threats: to the SE / PM relationship, and the way forward. Opportunities: views of projects as systems. Weaknesses: communications failures and how to cure them. Strengths: examples of good co-operative practice. Establishing the Systems Engineering Skill SetSystems Engineering is becoming a recognised discipline, and so convergence is needed throughout industry on the core set of skills or competencies. This is a topic which needs to be moved on, and it is one in which all members have an interest. What courses are available? What is the route to a formal process of accreditation? Add your views to those being formulated.
